Founded in 1974, Riverside Avondale Preservation is one of the South's largest neighborhood preservation and improvement organizations. The organization sponsors annual home tours, concerts, house restorations, art festivals and a spectacular Christmas Luminaria Festival. The Riverside-Avondale neighborhood is listed as a Historic District in the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the largest Historic Districts in the southeastern United States. The mission of Riverside Avondale Preservation is to ensure a high quality of life in the Riverside and Avondale neighborhoods through programs which highlight our cultural heritage, stimulate architectural preservation, promote neighborhood vitality and strengthen its economic viability.
